CHRIS STROMQUIST
Drummer/percussionist Chris Stromquist brings a global approach to the many groups with which he regularly performs. Having traveled and lived in Brazil, Cuba, Ghana, Bolivia and Europe, Chris's drumming style is an amalgamation of influences drawn from these experiences. Based in Seattle since 1997, he has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States and performs and records with a number of local, national and international groups.
Chris can currently be heard playing with the following bands:
Kultur Shock (Balkan Folk/Rock/Funk/Punk)
Glorious (Neo-Psychadelic Americana Brit-Pop)
Quasi Nada (Brazilian Beat/Global Soul)
In recent years he has performed and/or recorded with an incredibly diverse range of artists including Atlanta hip-hopper (and Goodie Mob member) Cee-Lo, mandolin virtuoso Mike Marshall, Seattle saxophone legend Don Lanphere, Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos Neto, Cuban flautist Richard Egues (from Orquesta Aragon), Cuban percussionist Roberto Borrell, Ghanaian palm-wine guitarist Ko Nimo, Trinidadian steel pan player Ray Holman and San Francisco Bay Area percussionist Michael Spiro.
DRUM! Magazine recently had this to say about Chris:
"With a background in steeped in punk rock drumming, Yankee member Chris Stromquist might be the last person you would expect to simmer a samba, but he makes this everlasting series of stylistic transitions feel effortless. Obviously he knows that each of these genres is a type of dance music for the masses, and leans on them appropriately hard"
