MYK "DDT" WEST I am a musician out of Seattle, WA who dabbles in Hip-Hop, Jazz, Latin, Funk, and Gospel music. I was born into a family of jazz musicians and had jazz music, along with Motown and Stax soul, fed to me at a young age. I was raised on the Muckleshoot indian reservation. Hip-Hop was a major force in the area and I began countering Stevie Wonder with LL. Around the 4th grade I began playing drums, and about this time I began writing rhymes in the privacy of my bedroom. I continually played with jazz groups up through High school, but was always looking for a way to express the Hip-Hop side of my persona. It wasn't till I met the likes of Capt. Raab, the Imfamous John E. Mack, and their group the PF Squad that I got to play Hip-Hop music to an audience. Over the years I have picked up a few tricks in addition to the Drums and MCing. I was introduced to Zapp by Raab and John and since have spent many hours emulating Roger Troutman on the Talkbox. Some freetime spent in Seattle traffic led to picking up the art of vocal scratch and am working on my Beatbox ability. Also, I have been working on my Keyboard skilz which has sparked more songwriting and even some singing. The major influences heard in my music come from sources such as Stevie Wonder, Tito Puente, The Artist (Prince), The Roots, Fishbone, Curtis Mayfield, D'angelo, Miles Davis, Arturo Sandoval, Gang Starr, Herbie Hancock, Zapp, Wu-Tang, P-Funk, Teddy Riley, Fred Hammond, the Wailers, Outkast, and Roy Haynes to name a few. Check out Current Projects to see what I'm up to now like PHATHOM. Also, check out my web site, www.geocities.com/mykddt for more info or e-mail me at mikeyd@u.washington.edu. |
